College Football Week 14…
Hope you all are recovering from the turkey induced coma. Well if you think it is the tryptophan, you are wrong. I found this on the internet, so it must be true. And yes, I am a French model. http://www.ajc.com/news/lifestyles/health/tryptophan-isnt-making-you-sleepy-thanksgiving/njHCg/
And yes that has nothing to do with college football, so here we go. A couple of big games this weekend and they all will be played down south. The rest of the stage is set for the college football playoff, as long as no one loses. This is my ranking Top Ten non SEC-programs that have a chance to make the playoff. This is not my top ten college football schools. It is the top ten teams that have the best chance to get into the playoff system.
- Florida State- They take on Florida in Will Muschamp’s last game as a big time football head coach. Things could get very interesting on Saturday afternoon for the Seminole Nation. FSU should roll in this game, but they should have rolled everyone on their schedule. FSU 31 Florida 3.
2. Oregon – They take on Oregon State this week in the annual rivalry game. Things can always go wrong in this type of game. But not this year because the Quack Attack is dialed in. Oregon 53 OSU 31.
3. TCU- They moved up against the best opponent out there, the BYE WEEK. And last night they smoked Texas 48-10. All the predictions have Baylor ahead of them in the rankings. Too bad the Big 12 doesn’t have a championship game.
There you have it. FSU, TCU, and Oregon will be in the playoffs. This is my final answer.
Arizona State (OUT)
Michigan State (OUT)
Ohio State- (Not totally out, still have a heart beat although very faint.)
In my heart, I love the underdog. This is the only team from the non-Power 5 that could make the playoff.
- Marshall- They got the best shot that UAB could muster and escaped with a win. For some reason, that gets Florida State into the college playoff while it gets Marshall only a 24 rank and they voters put Boise State ahead of Marshall in the Top-25. Don’t be afraid Herd fans, Boise State plays Utah State this weekend and I think they give you some help. Marshall 48 Western Kentucky 10.
Utah State (OUT)
Arkansas State (OUT)
The SEC is where all the action is for most college football fans. The first poll had the SEC with three teams in the top four for the playoff. This week, they still have two. The final poll will have them down to one and there is still a very real possibility that they have no teams in the playoff.
Auburn at Alabama. The media is drooling all over themselves now that Bama is back. They are the best, blah, blah, blah. They got very lucky at LSU and smoked Mississippi State at home. Now they get a beat down Auburn team at home. Look for the upset and some very unhappy Bama fans. Auburn 41 Alabama 18.
Ole Miss lost last week in the game they can’t afford to lose and they looked really bad in the process. Now they have Mississippi State at home. It is amazing how things fell apart for the Rebels after their star receiver was illegally tackled and then immorally hit with a helmet to helmet shot causing him to drop the football at the one foot line on the next to last play of the game against Auburn. On that single play, Ole Miss lost their best player, the ball game, and a chance for a national championship. But the good news is that the SEC officiating committee didn’t see fit to comment. Ole Miss 13 Mississippi State 41.
Normally, I don’t go deep into the SEC but the perfect storm is still out there. If Alabama loses and Mississippi State wins, then State goes to the SEC championship with a single loss. I think Arkansas will beat Missouri today and Georgia will lose to Georgia Tech but Georgia will still win the SEC East and play Mississippi State in the SEC Championship. If Georgia wins the Championship then the SEC Champion will have three losses and the best team from the SEC West will have two. If that happens, look for Ohio State to sneak into the playoff.
Over the course of the turkey day sloth fest with my family yesterday, we talked college football among other non-controversial topics like; Was Jesus a Democrat or a Republican? We played some great games like; Who has the biggest prostrate and who can is the loudest snorer? All good fun that left everyone shamed, angry and bitter. Nothing says Thanksgiving like a pouting Uncle sitting on the couch after getting his butt spanked at charades.
Anyway, the conversation turned to College Football and the future coaches for Michigan and Florida. I am making my picks now, so you can all agree that I do have a crystal ball. The next head coach at Michigan will be Brett Bielema of Arkansas and the next head coach at Florida will be Bobby Petrnio of Louisville. I know those are out of the box predictions and my family says I am crazy which is exactly why I will be right. For all the teams not named Florida and Michigan, enjoy the final weekend of security because you think your head football coach is secured in place with an iron clad contract.
